DTE Foundation Grants $50,000 to GABA Foundation
Detroit, Michigan – The GABA Foundation has received a $50,000 grant from the DTE Foundation to scale its GABA ACCESS program through the launch of Community Relief Mobile Clinics, designed to deliver direct services and vital resources to African and Caribbean families across Michigan.
“This grant represents more than financial support. It affirms that systems can and should be designed to meet families where they are,” said Rhonna-Rose Akama-Makia, President of The GABA Foundation. “We are proud to partner with the DTE Foundation in creating solutions rooted in trust, dignity, and cultural relevance.”
The Community Relief Mobile Clinics will provide services such as documentation and identification support, workforce guidance, small business resources, and navigation of social safety net programs directly into neighborhoods. Families will also have access to legal assistance, translation and language services, and help with vital records. Each clinic is expected to serve thousands of families statewide.
“This award is rooted in our mission,” said O. Rerhi Onomake, Board Chair of The GABA Foundation. “The DTE Foundation’s support allows us to close gaps that too often leave families behind. By bringing these tools directly to our people, we are creating real pathways to opportunity and stability.”
The initiative reflects The GABA Foundation’s pillars of support, opportunity, and connection. Each clinic will also employ local residents as peer navigators and support staff, ensuring that communities are not only served but also engaged as partners in delivering solutions.
The first Community Relief Mobile Clinics will launch early next year, with dates and locations to be announced.
